The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) manages Uganda’s national parks, game reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, conserving the country’s rich wildlife heritage for tourism and community benefit.
UWA manages 10 National Parks, 12 Wildlife Reserves, 5 Community Wildlife Management Areas and 13 Wildlife Sanctuaries. The Authority issues gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits, park entry fees and activity bookings, and works with local communities to ensure conservation contributes to livelihoods.
The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), based in Entebbe, is now rationalised under UWA. It remains the country’s centre for wildlife education and conservation awareness u2014 rehabilitating rescued animals, running school programmes, and offering visitors a close-up wildlife experience on the shores of Lake Victoria.
