KASESE, 3 July 2026 — The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Col. Tom R. Butime, today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a major eco-tourism infrastructure development project valued at Uganda Shillings 9.2 billion at Kikorongo, within Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The project, funded under the KLICD Initiative, will construct a world-class eco-lodge, interpretive centre, community market, and improved access roads designed to raise the quality of the tourism product at Uganda most-visited national park.
This project is a statement of our commitment to turning Uganda unparalleled natural heritage into sustainable economic prosperity for our communities.
Project Components
The Kikorongo Eco-Tourism Infrastructure Project comprises four main components: a 32-room eco-lodge built from sustainable local materials; a 500-seat cultural interpretive centre; a craft and community market supporting 120 artisan families; and 4.2 km of upgraded access roads.
Community Impact
The project is expected to create over 340 direct jobs during construction and 180 permanent positions upon completion.
