Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector remains a critical driver of economic growth, employment creation, and national development. However, the sector continues to face a significant skills gap that limits productivity, service quality, and global competitiveness. Addressing this gap is essential to strengthening Uganda’s position as a leading tourism destination and ensuring inclusive participation of Ugandans in sector growth.
The Government of the Republic of Uganda, through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), is implementing the National Apprenticeship Programme in the tourism and hospitality sector. This initiative is aligned with the Uganda National Apprenticeship Framework (2018) and the Employment Act (2006).
The programme is designed to equip unemployed graduates with work-readiness skills across the tourism value chain by promoting employment-based skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling. Through structured on-the-job training, apprentices will gain practical industry experience while contributing meaningfully to the sector.
