MINISTRY OF TOURISM, WILDLIFE AND ANTIQUITIES HANDSOVER 40 ROLEX CARTS TO VENDORS IN WESTERN UGANDA


Fort portal, Western Uganda, 10th June 2022: The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities with support from the UNDP Rapid Financing Facility under the Sustainable Tourism and Inclusive Business Eco System project committed resources towards the Green Stimulus Package to build community resilience.


In January this year, the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities partnered with the Rolex Initiative to implement the exercise where a capacity building exercise for over 500 rolex youth food street vendors was conducted for the 9 districts in the Rwenzori region including; Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Kasese, Bunyangabu, Kamwenge, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo and Fort Portal City. Participants were mentored in the areas of; hygiene, quality of service, business practice, financial management and waste management to enhance service delivery to the public.


This was followed with the handover ceremony of 40 carts on 10th June 2022 at the Tooro Kingdom Youth Centre. The event was presided over by the Assistant commissioner and Director Uganda Tourism Board Mr. Lyazi Vivian and the Lord Mayor of Fort Portal where the best 2 trainees in each District were awarded a modern Rolex cart worth 2 million Ugandan Shillings.



However, the vendors were urged not to sell the carts but use them for business as well as implement the knowledge obtained from the training to train other vendors for the benefit of society and increased job creation for the youth.
