MoU Signing between Ministry and Jane Goodall Institute
The memorandum aims to formalize a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) and JGI for chimpanzee conservation, habitat protection, and sustainable tourism. Prior to this, MTWA has upgraded protected areas, assessed lessons from previous upgrades, developed the National Chimpanzee Conservation Strategy (NCCS), and collaborated with stakeholders to fundraise for the NCCS. A fundraising event hosted by the President of Uganda raised 1.6185 trillion Ugandan Shillings from donors and diplomats.
During the signing ceremony, Mr. James Byamukama, Executive Director of JGI, presented the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Doreen Katusiime with a copy of "Reason For Hope," authored by Jane Goodall—an English primatologist and anthropologist currently serving as a UN ambassador for Peace. The gift was accompanied by remarks on the importance of fostering hope in an increasingly complex world.
