MINISTRY OF TOURISM WILDLIFE & ANTIQUITIES. WORLD TOURISM DAY 2023 PROGRAMME


World Tourism Day, 27th September, is a global annual day of celebration where people world over join together to reflect on the importance and benefits that accrue from tourism. Tourism is one of the world’s most important economic sectors. It employs one in every ten people on Earth and provides livelihoods to hundreds of millions more. For some countries, contributes to over 20 percent of their GDP. The event is promoted annually by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).


The purpose of the celebrations is to foster awareness among the global community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to address the global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and highlight the tourism sector´s contribution to achieving these goals.
